nothing is provocative anymore, even for kids...

So todays post is about a few songs I enjoy that have a message and meaning behind them.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I CHOSE THESE SONGS BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT MY BELIEFS. IT IS MY OPINION, AND YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOURS ALSO.

Sex, Yeah by Marina and the Diamonds
POP MUSIC

This song addresses the issue of an over sexualized society and culture (even for children). It also expresses the need for women to break free of the labels and limits that society and history has placed on us.

My favourite lyrics from the song are, "If women were religiously, recognized sexually. We wouldn't have to feel the need to show our ass, it's to feel free."

Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
RAP/HIP HOP MUSIC

I 100% support equal rights for all. No matter your race, sexual preference, gender, etc.
The first time I heard this song I gained a lot of respect for Macklemore as a musician and as a human being because of his message, and I also cried at how moving it was. Progress needs to be made around the world for equal rights. SHOUT OUT TO NEW ZEALAND AND FRANCE FOR PASSING EQUAL RIGHTS LAWS! WAY TO GO! That's a good place to start. We are on the way to a better world. For those of you who feel like there is no future for you because of your sexual preference, it does get better, I promise.

My favourite lyrics from this song are, "It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion. Gender to skin colour, complexion of your pigment. The same fight that led people to walk-outs and sit-ins. Human rights for everybody, there is no difference."

Accidental Racist by Brad Paisley and LL Cool J
COUNTRY MUSIC

Along with over-sexualized culture and hatred towards LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning) there is still hate and prejudice towards others based on the colour of their skin. This song has received a lot of attention in the media because of its controversial topic. Brad Paisley and LL Cool J try to address the issue of racism. Even though the USA has an African-American President, we are not living in a post-racial world. So much hate and violence is caused all around the world due to prejudice towards or of others because of how they look, including the colour of their skin. We have made progress, but we still have a long ways to go. But at least someone is bringing the topic to centre stage.

My favourite lyrics from this song are, "Oh Dixieland (The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixin')"

Ciao! xoxo
